Get started with Ledger* | Ledger.com/start
Welcome — protect your crypto the right way
This presentation walks you step-by-step through getting started with a Ledger hardware wallet:
from unboxing and setup to secure daily use and best practices. Designed for new users, the guide highlights
safety tips and links to official resources.

Ledger • Quick setup
What you’ll need
Step 1 — What you’ll need before you start
Checklist
- Ledger hardware device (Nano S Plus / Nano X) and original cable.
- A computer or smartphone with internet access and Ledger Live app (download from Ledger.com).
- Quiet location, no cameras on, and pen & paper for your recovery phrase.
Preparation reduces mistakes. Make sure you only download Ledger Live from the official site:
Ledger.com/start. Never install random apps or click unknown links while setting up your device.

Ledger • First-time setup
Initialize your device
Step 2 — Initialize your Ledger device
Power on & choose a PIN
Turn on the device, select “Set up as new device” and choose a secure PIN (6+ digits). This PIN protects on-device
access — do not share it. You’ll confirm it immediately, so pick something memorable but not trivial.
Next, write down your recovery phrase exactly as shown. This is the ONLY backup of your crypto accounts. Ledger will
never ask for this phrase online.

Ledger • Recovery phrase
Single most important asset
Step 3 — Safeguard your recovery phrase
Best practices
- Write it on the included recovery sheet or a stamped metal backup — never store digitally.
- Keep multiple secure offline copies in geographically separate locations.
- Never share the phrase with anyone — Ledger support will never ask for it.
If you lose your device, the recovery phrase is how you restore access to your funds. If someone obtains it, they control your crypto.

Ledger • Ledger Live
Install apps & manage accounts
Step 4 — Install Ledger Live and manage apps
Ledger Live is the desktop/mobile app that connects to your device. Use it to install currency apps
(Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.), create accounts, and view balances. Always update Ledger Live and on-device firmware.
Quick tips
- Only install official apps via Ledger Live.
- Check firmware updates inside Ledger Live — updates improve security.
- When sending funds, verify addresses on the physical device screen.

Ledger • Sending & receiving
Everyday operations
Step 5 — Sending and receiving crypto
To receive, generate an address in Ledger Live and confirm the address on the device screen. To send, create a transaction in Ledger Live
then confirm the destination address and amount on your Ledger device. The on-device check prevents malware from altering transactions.
Confirm on device
Always confirm the full receiving address on the device before approving — not just the first/last characters.

Ledger • Use-cases
What you can do
Use cases — beyond holding
- Long-term cold storage for high-value holdings.
- Daily trading when combined with a secure hot wallet.
- Staking and DeFi via supported integrations — always verify third-party integrations.
Ledger hardware wallets are versatile. For complex DeFi interactions, consider using a small hot wallet and keep the majority in cold storage.

Ledger • Security
Threats & protections
Security — common threats
How to protect yourself
- Phishing: Always verify URLs and never enter your recovery phrase online.
- Malware: Keep your devices updated and use anti-malware where appropriate.
- Social engineering: Never give remote access or share secrets.
Ledger devices are designed to keep private keys offline — the security model depends on you protecting the recovery phrase and PIN.

Ledger • Troubleshooting
If things go wrong
Troubleshooting & recovery
Lost device? Use your recovery phrase to restore on a new Ledger or compatible wallet. If you suspect compromise,
move funds (using recovery phrase on a new device) after ensuring security. If you encounter firmware or connection issues,
consult official guides—do not rely on random forum advice.
Contacting support
Always use official Ledger channels; beware of impersonators. See Ledger.com/start for verified support pathways.
